OUGD603 / Extended Practice / Yearbook / Playing with Type in Studio

We set up a projector in the pt studio this evening, hoping to get some shots of typography distorted amongst the studio walls. As the sun went down, we started to get some really great shots and played around with composition amongst the walls.

The idea of warping the typography on the studio surface will give the impression of the shape of the studio without needing the actual photos; the plan being to cut these sections of type out as flat colours.

The typography contains the words There's more... ... Beneath the surface

The phrase can be viewed separately or together and work throughout the book as gaps and as the central space, a space for us to put images of the studio etc.

Above are the files we worked with. The typography matches the typeface (Archivo) used on the cover of the book for the contents / names.

The below images are taken on the proper camera, showing the type really wrapping around different bits of studio. It's all well and good digitally warping things but to literally wrap the studio in type adds another dimension to what we're trying to do.

And below is the type cut out, showing the folds of the studio. There's something brilliant going on here that's so much more than digitally warping the type.
