I didn't enter the Penguin competition last year but I've regretted it since so I'll definitely be entering this year.
For whatever reason, I'm really interested in interpretive briefs - taking a subject matter as huge as a novel or film and turning it into one static visual is hugely challenging.
Adult Fiction Cover Award
Title brief: A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
Seminal novel by Anthony Burgess. Film even more popular (Kubrick).
Restored Penguin edition (above) is gorgeous in its' simplicity but certainly doesn't convey the madness and brutality of the subject matter.

Adult Non-Fiction Cover Award
Title brief: How to Be a Woman by Caitlin Moran
Uninspiring cover with lots of potential for improvement! The subject matter gives us huge scope to work with in terms of imagery.
May be a problem that I'm a guy designing a cover claiming to know 'How to Be a Woman' but would allow room for lots of research!

Children’s Cover Award
Title brief: Emil and the Detectives by Erich Kästner
Bit wary of this, the cover is already incredible! I would say however that it doesn't immediately strike me as a children's book from the imagery, I think it's the lack of colour. Still, very nice.
