OUGD603 / Extended Practice / Laura Farrall Brand

Pushing on with Laura's logo design, I began testing what I'd done already in situ (here as foil embossings). This gives the logo / idea a more realistic setting and really helps with the designing, instead of seeing it as a flat black and white vector.

Here I love the bike and the LF monogram still works though has some slight legibility issues, coming across as a possible Y.

I showed Johnny (Dawes) my work up til this point and he recommended trying the British transport numberplate font. I found it as a free download and do like the effect. It brings to mind travel and timelessness without the need for imagery.

These more angular takes on the bikes went down well with Laura and will be pursued, perhaps turning into some kind of gridded badge type thing. I'll search for similar examples.

Above is the slightly edited and softened bike which is still strong and evokes the era more than the angular version.

I've been enjoying the work of Lance Wyman and his simple yet complex logo forms. As such, I tried out variations on LF, deriving from a square with equal width of lines cut out at certain points. I love these but think they speak of corporate business not analogue photographer.
