OUGD603 / Extended Practice / Penguin / Process

I felt that this project was going in the wrong direction but still wanted to push the idea of all producing covers for all three books in the Penguin collection.

I got a new pen and began working on hand drawn typography for each book. I felt this was a natural starting point for my practice and decided to work on colour and layout to evoke each book.

From here, I imported the scans into photoshop and began playing with colours representing each book. I believe cover designs often get too bogged down in the storyline and themes. With these pieces I just wanted to create intriguing covers with the smallest of hints towards the subject matter.

These hints came down to colour choice.

I envisioned these colours paired with milky white backgrounds, in the same vain as Barnbrook's gorgeous Clockwork Orange piece.
