I approached an old acquaintance over email the other day (he now lives in Dublin) about a collaboration bringing together my visuals and his extremely interesting twitter feed which is full of random pings and a lovely rhythm, in his words 'an instant concentrated'.
I actually initially approached Dan with the idea of turning his words into valuable letterpress prints - I NEED to do a long form letterpress project and this felt right.
He liked the idea but warned that his current writing style is that of writing 'inconstantly and what comes out in the tweets is a momentary sort of witness report.'
For me, that is where the project gets interesting, playing with the lack of physical value of a tweet despite its' incredible potential for societal change.
I sent him the work of Alan Kitching as a reference for the colourful letterpress style. The lack of inhibition within the application of the ink beautifully contrasts the thought and precision of the building of the type of the chase.
To be continued
