He brought some great examples to the table and I brought Mambo by Atelier Bingo (below), a French collage collective. The freeness of the publication just makes me smile and speaks of the process behind the work. The loose typographic style fits completely and could be something we try out...
In light of Mambo, I began testing out ways of incorporating some of our rich well of imagery into the book whilst also bringing in studio shots and avoiding a 'prospectus' feel, ie very clean well lit shots presented as such.

above two in same order, the second working better than the first try, with the more linear bars allowing better integration of studio imagery. It's still subtle but definitely jarring and interesting.
Another attempt but with the addition of some multiply ps layers just to see how much we can push the realms of collage.
