We had another tutorial this morning from Pete Barber, focusing on spray paint technique and brush stroke technique. Really good!
After that we were asked to pitch our mural designs to three guys from Plusnet. The pitch would also be filmed and shown to Plusnet employees! Pressure!
I prepared a presentation detailing my thought process from beginning and concept through to my outcome as mocked up on the wall.
Below are my notes from the presentation and I'll add a few notes to the slides below...
A few words can speak a thousand pictures! Emphasis on the length of time the mural will be up and the ability of words to say something different every day to different people as apposed to a pattern or s/t else.
Biggest influence. I noted Powers' ability to take a thought and make it a thing that's in the world. Everyone brings their own experiences to the words.
I love Andrew Savage's painterly style and colour palette.
We're All Closer - Highlighting Plusnet's / the Internet's positive impact on the world. Aiming to bring that different perspective from everybody who sees the words. Of course the internet isn't all positive and I hope it raises the question of whether we are all closer?
The pres went really well! They were responsive, seemed to like the concept and clarity of the idea.
Fingers crossed.
In the meantime, i'm going to take the idea and make it into a risograph print using risotto press 's 25 pound club. I want to re draw some of the the icons and make it a clean, print based image, then print using some bright riso colours.
