OUGD603 / Extended Practice / End of Year Show Proposal

We have to think about our end of year show space and which project should go in there.

My stand out project of the year is undoubtedly my COP work, Machine Drawn Articles. The results are beautiful to look at and have depth in their concept, conception and production.

The less successful aspects of the project are mainly the branding and naming. At the time I felt that the project needed a name to bring it all together but in hindsight, the imagery was strong enough to hold its' own without a title drawn on every piece.

In terms of putting the project into a gallery context, the prints look great as they are - however, I feel there's something to be explored in the process and more to be explored in the aesthetic/content.

Ideas:

  • Buy a small cutting machine and have the process running full time throughout the show.
  • New prints produced on a more... resonant theme
  • Links to inclusive design - this digital process with analogue delivery method (pen/pencil)
  • Use of RSS (really simple syndication) to relay ~internet things~ to a mechanical print process?
HOWEVER

My idea from a few months ago 'I Need You to Change' (or similar) has finally found its' process!

Bare Conductive make conductive paint that can be painted, screen printed etc and used in tandem with their circuit board to produce musical and visual products than can all be controlled via prints.

The interesting bit is that all of the examples show the prints as circuit boards, but the ink can be printed in any shape as long as everything connects back to the circuitboard. I'm thinking about how this can work but in theory, an A1 screenprint can control something on a screen next to it... Exactly what I was trying to convey but didn't know how. Suddenly the print isn't just to be experienced visually.
