We brought to the meeting; a cover design and three possible directions in terms of the internal layout.
Above: Cover design (disregard awards but example of possible screenprinted monoprint type). We discussed this at length and decided on everybody's name being on the front cover - as a reaction to choosing one person's work - suddenly everyone is on the front! We all agreed email addresses are ugly and can go at the back somewhere - hidden away!
They didn't seem overly keen on the overlaying/screenprinting text and I'm in agreement, I believe the simplicity of the cover as contents could be subtly pushed with some kind of nice print finish - subtly hinting at the colourful work inside. Perhaps an iridescent deboss of each name such as below could work nicely onto a light stock.
Next we went through our 3 variations, two of which are very similar. The first is the classic central space one image thing.
below: again but with a bit more freedom placing the studio image over the scanned piece.
Next was my interpretation, again putting imagery in a regular middle sized place but playing with elements creeping onto the page. These could be ripped or photoshopped in a sharper way. Duncan and Emma loved this whole spread, liking how the additions of extra pieces of work loosen everything up and make it more playful.
Next we showed the curve ball option that really pushes the additional imagery option, placing image over image over image, even cutting bits out and creating layered collages.
The reactions were positive but they were wary that it perhaps overcomplicated the publication too much and that the resolution above hits the mark in a more realistic way ; messy but channeled.
Moving forward, we'll take on the advice of Duncan and Emma, putting into practice the ~one chosen piece of work~ and then the additional extra that could crop up anywhere on the page.
I'll discuss the cover with Alec and see where we can go with that.
